( Prejudicial Language - "Euphemism" & "Dysphemism" )
*Pictures are not published for safety purpose*

Today.....Thank to God I'm alive now to write today's story. I met an accident today.
And for sure this will be one of my unforgottable memory in my life. I was on my way back from Nilai to campus after dropping my friend at the ktm station.
It was raining heavily. So heavy. On my way back, a motorcyclist came to my side of the line all of a sudden. He came right in front of me. I would have hit him if I did not break. So, I have to break to avoid hitting him. Once I break, at one single second the car turned 90 degrees to the left, I couldnt control the car. It was raining. Just as it was turning, another toyota Hilux came and bang the Iswara I was in. The shockest moment I have ever had in my life. The car damaged, but me and the toyota driver were alive. We are safe. The motorcyclist ran away from the incident. So I straight away call my dad and asked what to do and all. Things are fine now after settled evrything. But during the process till the case is settled, I learned something.
My mother called me and said, "Dont worry son. Its just an experience, lets learn from it. Thanks to God because you are alive. I love you." I thanked my mother to give me courage when I was in shock. And at the police station, one of the policeman said to my dad, "Your son is a reckless and careless driver. You have to be careful". But he dont know that I saved a motorcyclist's life. Its ok. I have to admit different people got different style of saying things.

From this, I learn a small thing related to our subject. My mother used "Euphemism".
She said its ok, lets learn from experience, which is a better statement because she wants me to be calm and stay strong mentally, physically and spiritually.
On the other hand, "Dysphemism" used by the policeman. He said I'm a careless driver and reckless without knowing the truth. Which will make people look down on themself. But, I'm strong and calm.

*sigh* Thank God for everything. For all of you out there. A simple message. Do drive carefully and think of other drivers as well while on the road.=)

3rd September 2008 ( Petitio Principii -Circular Argument )

Today I spent my day with my dad since my class is only at 5pm. The one and only class on wednesday for this semester. Before I go to seremban, we went to Kajang. My dad's friend, a doctor just bought a new house and we went for the prayers based on our hindu beliefs. The house was so big. It was a bungalow. They have their own jacuzzi in their master bedroom, the rooms are big and it was really nice to be there. While the prayers was going on, I got a call from my old friend. So, immediately after said I'm fine, I told him, "Hey this house I'm here now in Kajang is very beautiful man. My uncle's new house." And he asked, "How you know it is beautiful?". I said, " The house is beautiful because it has big rooms. It has big rooms because it can fit a jacuzzi. It can fit a jacuzzi because it is a bungalow. It is a bungalow because it is beautiful." My friend got confused and just said, "Owh like that ah.Ok, ok. Good".

I managed to use Petitio Principii - Circular argument for his question.
I made the conclusion appear both at the beginning and the end of the argument . So, the premises has the same meaning of the conclusion.

2nd September 2008

2nd September 2008 ( Scare Tactics )

Today after class I went to my friends room in Hostel. Just to take rest after such a long day.

He was watching an english movie which I'm not sure what is the movie's name. But I'm sure about apart of the story that is related to our Critical Thinking subject. I was watching the movie while lyin down on bed. There was this big Mafia in the story who is very good in martial arts. He knows alot of martial arts, such as kung fu, taekwondo, muay thai and judo. He declares himself as the mixed martial arts master. So, one fine day, there was a foreigner who came to his town and participated in one of the master's local martial art tournament. The master saw the way he the foreigner in handling his skills and the way he fight. The master was afraid that one day the foreigner will take over his place. So right after the tournament, the master went to the foreigner and said, " Hey friend. My name is Thuricane. I'm the master for the mixed martial art here. And this is my town. I know u have your own family and life. So, I think you better back off from this tournament so that you can see your family alive. I'm sure you love your family more than this tournament. Safe journey back to your hometown friend". And the story continues.

From this we can see that the Master feels threatened by the foreigner's skills and he used scare tactic to make sure the foreigner go back to his town.

1st September 2008

1st September 2008 ( Fallacy Of Hasty Generalization )

A day full with studies today. Awal Ramadhan, public holiday. So, I spent time studying and surfing net today in my house. Sometimes, if I feel bored or stressed, I will spend my time playing game like DOTA or CS(computer games). So, today after I studied few subjects, I decided to play game for a while. While I was playing CS, I got a call from my friend, Nesh.
Even before this, few times when he called, coincidentaly I was playing CS as well. Just after I picked up his call, I got shot in the game. I told him, "Haiyoo dude. What la you. See, I got shot in CS already". He laughed and said, " Ya la. Everytime I call only you will play CS, so now you got shot la". We both laughed and chat for a while asking about studies and life.

My friend assumed that evrytime he calls, I wil be playing game. But that is only a coincident.
So, it is a fallacy of hasty generalization.

31st August 2008

31st August 2008 ( Anecdote - story telling )

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Independence day in malaysia. How was merdeka those days(around 20years ago) and how is it today(2008)? This is what i learned todsay in my uncle’s house. There was one story he was telling. When he was young, he really enjoyed merdeka day. During his merdeka day, they were given free tickets to watch movie the whole day long! And the movies are nice, meaningful and worth to watch. And they all will enjoy their movie day. But now, 2008. I am really sure that we can see alot of differences and change in our nation. Better or worst? I cant say anything. People have different opinion. But for sure we are not getting free tickets anymore for movies. Hehehe. As time pass by, things change.

My uncle use anecdote to compare the National Day during his age and now.

30th August 2008

30th August 2008 (People’s opinion @ assumptions without reference)

A great day today. I went to Banting to visit my relatives. I drove there with my dearest friend, Mr.Kancil (my car). 20minutes journey from my house. I gave him food(petrol) which costs RM30 today. Which once upon a time it costs only about RM18 before the price hike of petrol. The world oil price increased, and as a result the malaysia’s oil price also increased. But still, many people are blaming the price hike without knowing the real truth. People keep blaming the government and their shortage of income. I was one of the people before I realise something. I realise that we have to stop blaming and stop thinking of what we do not want because we know the fact that its really hard to change something that is not in control in our hand. So, we have to think ahead and think of a proper solution. We have to act smart. For people who are having financial problem, they should think of earning extra money through some other alternatives. Doing part time business with small modal or doing part time job are some alternatives that they can try out. For people who do not understand about the economy of the world and our nation, they should gain extra knowledge on economy by searching information through internet, update themself by reading global news, understand about economical situation by refering to veteran economists or improve theirself by applying positive mental attitude and be willing to change to be a better person according to the environment. There are millions of alternatives that could be tried and implied in our life to face this economic crisis or some other problems in life. But it all depends on our willingness to change, to take action and put effort on the right thing at the right time to achieve the right thing.
This whole thing that I wrote is based on my opinion. And this is apart of the learning that is included in our Critical Thinking subject. People’s opinion @ assumptions without reference.

29th August 2008

29th August 2008 ( Ad hominem - Tu quoque )

Well, today I have no class. So, today I went to meet my friends at campus to discuss about my Management subject's assignment. It was three of us. We met in front of library to discuss and finish up the assignment as we were keep postponing to finish it up. So, my friends A and B came. We sat on one of the table and start to take out our paper works. We were discussing normally. And suddenly A told B, " Hey B, you don't know how to wake up early ah? Because of you we are discussing late today and we are going to finish our work late..You ah.. Haiyoo..". And then B kept quiet for a while. He took a deep breath. He looked at A and said, " At least I'm not missing class every morning by waking up so late like you right? ". It was a funny situation. But I did not laugh in front of them. After that, I said, " Ok, ok. Enough of blaming each other, lets finish our work first". And then we continued our work.

Based on this smal story of mine today, we can relate this to our logical fallacies - "Tu quoque"(Look who's talking).

28th August 2008

28th August 2008 (Hypothetical Syllogism, Chain argument.)

Right now I'm sitting in FCM cafe, having my roti pisang and teh tarik. And of course I waited for my roti pisang to get ready for about 1ominutes today. And thats too long. Because there are many students in FCM cafe today. Its early morning, breakfast time!!Maybe thats why. While I was waiting for my roti pisang, I realised how fast the "roti-maker" was doing roti for all the students who ordered. He was doing really fast because the amount of students coming kept increasing!! The "roti-maker" was making roti while there was another guy who delivers the roti. The students were waiting for their roti near the roti making place.Alot of them, it was packed. So, the "roti-deliver" could not stand and got angry. Most of them went to their seat and sat, waiting for their roti to be delivered.

As a conclusion, I saw that this is related to deductive reasoning. Which is Hypothetical Syllogism, Chain argument.

2 conclusions:
[ When there are alot of students in FCM cafe, there will be alot of orders.
If there are alot of orders, the faster the "roti-maker" works.
So,
if there are alot of students in FCM cafe, the faster the "roti-maker" works.]

[When there are alot of students in FCM cafe, there will be alot of orders.
If there are alot of orders, the more students will stand near the roti place.
If there are more students standing near the roti place, the "roti-deliver" becomes angry.
So, if there are alot of students in FCM cafe, the "roti-deliver" becomes angry.]
